Alvarez & Marsal Tax, the tax advisory business of consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal, has hired Minah Hall and Adam Uttley as managing directors.

Based in Chicago, Hall will focus on site selection and local incentives within the company’s corporate transformation steering group.

Hall has nearly 25 years of experience in strategic consulting and tax incentive negotiation and has extensive expertise in assisting companies making significant changes to their physical footprint. She has assisted startups, mid-sized companies and Fortune 500 companies across a variety of industries, including distribution, manufacturing, data centers, retail and corporate headquarters.

Hall previously served as a managing director at small tax consulting firms and several Big Four firms in Chicago. She began her career at Arthur Andersen.

Hall holds a JD from Loyola University Chicago and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

“Given the rapid changes we are seeing among our clients and across all markets, we can confirm that transformation in all its many forms is necessary,” said Ernie Perez, managing director and global practice leader of A&M Tax. “Minah’s appointment demonstrates that our commitment to best serving our clients remains at the forefront of our strategic growth trajectory, whether through new offerings, expanding existing service areas or adding new practice areas.”

Based in Los Angeles, Uttley will serve as head of the Portfolio Tax Services (PTS) group for the U.S. He has extensive experience in tax planning and reporting, cross-border planning, restructuring, exit planning, accounting methodologies and incentives, and post-acquisition support.

Uttley has supported private equity (PE) clients across numerous industries, including life sciences, pharmaceuticals, technology, utilities, oil and gas, gaming, hospitality and consumer goods.

Uttley was previously a Managing Director at Andersen Tax, where he led the Commercial Services practice in Southern California. Prior to that, he worked at KPMG, where he was a founding member of the Accounting Methods and Credit Services practice and was a member of the senior tax partner group.

Uttley holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

“Private equity is a key market for us, driving significant growth for both A&M and our tax practice,” said Perez. “We are continually looking for ways to diversify and enhance our tax solutions to create additional value for stakeholders across the PE ecosystem while addressing the evolving needs of those stakeholders. Our PTS investment in general – and the appointment of Adam in particular – does just that.”
