HARRISVILLE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WJW) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after a truck crashed into an overpass in Medina County Friday afternoon.

According to state police, a 2006 Kenworth T6 series semi-trailer truck carrying an oversized load was traveling east on 224 when it struck a sign and the deck of the U.S. 42 overpass.

The driver, 43-year-old Deshawn Johnson of Texas, was not injured.

“Through the investigation, it was determined that Johnson had deviated from his ODOT-approved route and also did not have a lead vehicle with an altitude sensor,” ODOT said in a press release.

Johnson is charged with reckless conduct, permit violation and oversize, among other things.

After an investigation, inspectors confirmed that the bridge suffered “significant damage” in the accident, according to OSHP.

Both roads are closed indefinitely until further inspections and repairs can be made.

The Lodi Fire Department and Rescue Team shared a photo of the bridge on Facebook and said ODOT crews will reassess the damage on Monday.

The crash is currently still under investigation.
