Delaware State Police arrested 38-year-old Joey Finney of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, on multiple felony charges yesterday following a chase near Felton.

On Tuesday, around 5:30 p.m., the Kent County Governor’s Task Force was patrolling South Dupont Highway near Felton when they spotted a black GMC Yukon driven by Finney. Detectives recognized him from previous investigations and knew he had outstanding warrants. They confirmed his identity through a computer check. They attempted to stop the vehicle in the parking lot of Royal Farms at 11460 South Dupont Highway, but Finney fled and began a pursuit.

According to police, during the chase, Finney was observed throwing an object from the vehicle while driving recklessly through several streets and roads in the Felton area. The pursuit ended in the parking lot of Uncle Willie’s on Reeves Crossing Road after investigators deployed stop sticks to stop the vehicle.

During the investigation, investigators seized a cigarette pack discarded from the Yukon, which police said contained approximately 5.06 grams of powder cocaine and 0.07 grams of heroin.

Finney was subsequently arrested and transported to Squad 3. He was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to traffic (aggravated felony), possession of a controlled substance, level 1 (aggravated felony), tampering with evidence (aggravated felony), failure to obey a police signal (aggravated felony), resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, and several traffic violations.

Following arraignment by a Justice of the Peace of Judicial Court 2, Finney was remanded to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $18,900 bail.
