Edwardsville, IL Police Respond to Lewd Conduct Complaint

Edwardsville Police responded on June 28 to a complaint about a shirtless man on a bicycle making offensive gestures and comments toward girls and women.

“At approximately 10:48 a.m., we received a complaint of a shirtless male subject on a bicycle making offensive gestures,” said Edwardsville Police Chief Michael Fillback. “The subject was reportedly on the Nickel Plate Bike Trail near Township Park. We responded, but did not find anyone matching the description, and the individuals officers spoke with on the trail at the time did not report any (similar) individuals.

“As always, we encourage citizens to contact police directly at 618-656-2131 if they notice any suspicious behavior on the trails.”

In July 2023, a 23-year-old South Roxana man was charged with lewdness and public nuisance.

In August 2021, a woman posted on social media that as she was getting ready for her morning run, she was alerted by another woman about a man who was allegedly exposing himself in one of the tunnels near West Franklin Avenue, which is near MCT’s Nickel Plate Trail. The second woman said she contacted Edwardsville police, who sent some officers to the area, but just like on June 28, they found no one.
