Flavor Flav recently signed a sponsorship deal to become the “Official Hype Man for the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Water Polo Teams.”

Rapper, reality TV star and entrepreneur Flavor Flav has joined the U.S. women’s water polo team for some splashing in the pool ahead of this summer’s Olympic Games.

Wearing swim shorts and an official U.S. Water Polo Association cap (he took off his trademark watch medallion at the pool’s edge), the musician chanted “USA, USA” before entering the water on Tuesday.

Flav, who recently signed a sponsorship deal to become the “official hype man for the U.S. men’s and women’s national water polo teams,” said he feels like an Olympian when he wears the cap.

“It’s not easy!” the musician exclaimed as he tried out some moves in the water. However, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer scored a beautiful goal in practice and the members of the women’s team assured him that he had what it takes.

“You are one of the best people that gets to go in the water with us,” a player can be heard saying in a video posted by USA Water Polo on Instagram.

The musician, best known as the co-founder of the rap group Public Enemy, offered his services as a promotional voice for the US women’s water polo team ahead of this year’s Paris Olympics after seeing an Instagram post by captain Maggie Steffens urging more people to get interested in the sport.

In his response to Steffens on Instagram, he promised to “use all my relationships and resources” to support the team in the run-up to the games.

“It’s great because what water polo and a lot of these niche sports need is someone to open the door to our sport. There’s only so much we as athletes can do,” Steffens previously told CNN Sport.

Flavor Flav received positive feedback on his performance in the pool.

Steffens and her colleagues want to make history in Paris as the first women’s water polo team to win four Olympic gold medals in a row. The 30-year-old was involved in each of the first three successes.

Despite this dominance, the team remains largely unknown to many. Like other sports, water polo struggles to attract spectators outside the spotlight of the Olympic Games, which only take place every four years.
