Further service disruptions announced as RTD conducts track repairs on light rail line

DENVER – The Regional Transportation District (RTD) will continue to make track repairs to sections of the Southeast Corridor Light Rail Line that have impacted service along the corridor for months.

RTD announced Saturday that the E and R lines on that route will be temporarily closed between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. starting Sunday next week. Shuttle buses will be provided during the upcoming maintenance.

The repairs will address maintenance issues that have resulted in reduced train speeds and service disruptions on the E and R lines south of Southmoor station for at least two months.

“The service has reached a point where it is unusable,” said Richard Bamber, co-founder of Greater Denver Transit.

Bamber told Denver7 that the group wants to advocate for the countless passengers affected by service disruptions.

Passengers and Greater Denver Transit aren’t the only ones asking RTD for more information. Colorado’s Public Utilities Commission (PUC) requested all Southeast Line track inspection reports since January 2024.

Repairs to about two miles of southbound tracks between Orchard and Arapahoe at the Village Center stations were completed this week, and speed limits along that section of the corridor have now been lifted, RTD said in a news release Saturday.
