Georgia Tech Football gets new prediction for season win total

The 2024 college football season begins in just eight weeks, kicking off with a big game between Georgia Tech and Florida State in Dublin, Ireland. This game could have implications for the ACC title game, and the Yellow Jackets will be looking to prove they are one of the underdogs in the ACC, while the Seminoles will be looking to defend their ACC title with an early win.

It’s no secret that Georgia Tech has one of the toughest schedules in the country, and it starts with Florida State. The win total for the Yellow Jackets is 5.5 wins, and yesterday CBS Sports college football analyst Chip Patterson gave his predictions for all the wins in the ACC and he’s tipping the floor for Georgia Tech:

Wins: Georgia State, in Syracuse, VMI, Duke, in North Carolina

Defeats: Florida State in Louisville, Notre Dame in Virginia Tech, Miami, NC State in Georgia

Analysis: “Coach Brent Key deserves a ton of credit for the Yellow Jackets’ performance last season, finishing as one of only five teams in the ACC with a winning record in the conference (5-3). And with many players back for 2024 (especially on offense), expect Georgia Tech to be ready for another step forward. But to actually return to the postseason, Georgia Tech will have to win in more than half of its toss-up games, some of which will be on the road. Under 5.5 wins (-180)”

I still think Georgia Tech will advance, but it definitely won’t be easy. There are a lot of challenging road games ahead for the Yellow Jackets, but it’s important to remember that Brent Key has shown as interim coach and as head coach last season that he can get his team to compete and create surprises. That’s what will be needed this season, and I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Last season, Georgia Tech made its first bowl game since 2018 and won its first bowl game since 2016. It was a really good first season under Brent Key and now Georgia Tech has its sights set on getting back to a bowl game and maybe even more. The Yellow Jackets have one of the toughest schedules in the country for the 2024 season and it will be an uphill battle, but they can get the majority of the starters back from one of the best offenses in the country and if the defense improves, this could be one of the most dangerous teams in the ACC.

South Florida should be one of the best teams in the Conference of Five this season and potentially a playoff contender. The highest-ranked conference champion in the Conference of Five will advance to the new 12-team College Football Playoff, and that could be the Bulls. They have made great strides in Alex Golesh’s first season as head coach and should have one of the best offenses in the country. USF finished fifth in the AAC last season and should be in the running to win the conference.

It’s probably way too early for bowl predictions, but some media outlets, including Athlon Sports, have already started publishing them. In the first bowl predictions for 2024, Georgia Tech will face South Florida in the Fenway Bowl, which will be held at Fenway Park in Boston.

This would be a pretty exciting bowl matchup, even though both teams hope to finish in a better position in the postseason. There is the potential for a high-scoring shootout.
