Downton Abbey Star Hugh Bonneville has landed his next leading role in a crime comedy Go away!

The thriller was written and directed by Ed Kear and Cringo Williamson and is about a lodger whose life changes dramatically when an accident threatens to ruin his drug business (via The Hollywood Reporter).

This is EnglandMichael Socha and BridgertonElla Bruccoleri will star alongside Bonneville; production has now begun in Hertfordshire.

Go away! follows work-shy lodger Kyle Burden, played by Socha, whose life is turned upside down when an accident involving a bailiff threatens to put his marijuana growing business at risk on the same day his landlord is conducting viewings with potential buyers,” the film’s official logline states.

The film’s ensemble is rounded off by The Tuckers Star Steve Speirs, Doctor Who‘s Jo Martin, Boarding school students Actor Niky Wardley, Flea bagJeff Mirza and Coronation Streetby Chris Gascoyne.

Following the film’s announcement, Kear and Williamson expressed their excitement in a joint statement: “We’ve had a fantastic time developing this project and are incredibly excited to bring it to life with such a fantastic cast and crew.”

Bonneville will next be seen in a new ITV drama Douglas is cancellednext to Protector of the Galaxy Actress Karen Gillan.

The four-part series comes from the former Doctor Who Chief Steven Moffat focuses on newsreader Douglas and the aftermath of a tweet accusing him of telling “an extremely sexist joke at a wedding.”

It was a busy year for Bonneville, who also reprised his role as Robert Crawley in Downton Abbey‘s upcoming third film.

The latest spin-off of the acclaimed TV series is scheduled to hit theaters on September 12, 2025.

While filming is now underway, the actor recently spoke to Yahoo! to hint at his character’s development by saying, “Robert finally accepts that things are changing – it’s time to move on with the story, so to speak.”

He added: “I think there’s so much warmth and fun to enjoy, and also new elements – which I won’t give away – that I think it will certainly be the best reboot of the film adaptations yet.”

Go away! has no release date yet. Downton Abbey 3 The UK and US release is scheduled for September 12, 2025. The television series can be streamed on ITVX.
