KCPD investigates homicide in downtown KC after shots fired near large crowd

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KCTV) — Police say a man died early Sunday morning when shots were fired near a large crowd in downtown Kansas City.

Kansas City police responded to reports of a shooting just before 3:30 a.m. on June 30. When officers arrived at the scene near 12th Street and Grand Boulevard, they found a man with apparent gunshot wounds.

Officers rendered medical aid to the man until emergency responders arrived, but he was then pronounced dead. His death is being investigated as a homicide.

According to KCPD, a large crowd was gathered in a parking lot at the time of the shooting and the victim was struck by the gunfire. It is unclear what circumstances led to the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Homicide Unit directly at 816-234-5043 or anonymously to the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS Hotline.
