Key Yankees pitcher reaches major milestone, suggesting his return is imminent

The New York Yankees could get reinforcements in the bullpen in the near future.

New York’s bullpen has been solid this season, but not as good as hoped. When the Yankees were nearly at their best, the bullpen was outstanding. New York initially had one of the best bullpen ERAs in baseball, but now it ranks 12th with a 3.59 ERA.

One of the main reasons for this was certainly the many injuries. Nevertheless, New York could soon have an important pitcher on the mound again. Yankees flamethrower Nick Burdi is expected to face a bullpen on Sunday, according to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic.

“Aaron Boone said Nick Burdi is throwing a live BP tomorrow in Tampa,” Kirschner said. “Ian Hamilton hasn’t started throwing yet. JT Brubaker is being built up as a starter, but he could be used in a lot of different roles.”

Burdi was one of the Yankees’ best relievers before he got hurt. He has made 12 appearances so far this season and has impressed with a stunning 1.86 ERA and a 12-to-9 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

If his bullpen work goes well, it probably won’t be long before he is sent to a minor league rehab assignment and then soon returns to New York.

The Yankees desperately need help in the bullpen and the return of Burdi could only help.
