While a summit of the NATO military alliance is taking place in the USA, protesters have called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip for the second day in a row.

At the demonstration in Washington, demonstrators also called for an end to war funding, The new Arabs Arabic edition Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed This was reported on Wednesday.

Some activists demonstrated near a hotel and protested via loudspeakers against the participation of NATO members and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in one of the events.

“We came here to protest and raise our voices against the US Secretary of State and against NATO,” said a US activist who has been demonstrating for a ceasefire in Gaza for months.

“It is sad that at this stage in human history we have to justify Western military spending, especially when we see every day how Western bombs are tearing children to pieces by the Israeli occupation army,” the activist added.

The activist said the demonstrators were protesting against Western military spending and would continue their civil actions.

Previously, US intelligence chief Avril Haines had claimed that “Iranian government actors” had attempted to “opportunistically exploit ongoing protests against the war in the Gaza Strip.”

“We have observed actors with links to the Iranian government posing as activists online to call for protests and even provide financial support to protesters,” she said in a statement on Tuesday.

However, Haines acknowledged that Americans participating in the protests were “expressing their views on the conflict in Gaza in good faith.”

Washington and Tehran have long been enemies. Iran is a major enemy of Israel, but the US is its main supporter, including in the war against Gaza.

The NATO Council, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and politicians are discussing further military, financial and political support for Kyiv from the alliance in order to strengthen its capabilities against Russia.

Moscow began a large-scale invasion of its neighbor in 2022.

The White House said allies would announce at least 40 billion euros ($43 billion) in financial support over the next year, as well as new measures that would lead to Ukraine’s NATO membership.

According to the Palestinian enclave’s health ministry, at least 38,295 people have been killed in Israel’s war against Gaza.

The NATO summit will take place in Washington, DC, to mark the alliance’s 75th anniversary.
