Reviews say the film “Longlegs” with Nicolas Cage will haunt you

play

The reviews are in and the critics agree: “Longlegs” is absolutely terrifying.

The horror thriller “Neon” starring Nicolas Cage as an unstable country doll maker and Maika Monroe as a young FBI agent celebrated its red carpet premiere at the Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles, California on Tuesday.

The fans in attendance were each given a red 45-inch vinyl record with the cover version of “Longlegs Cipher,” but left the theater too scared to play the soundtrack.

“Longlegs” is the latest film from actor and screenwriter Osgood “Oz” Perkins, who is also the son of Anthony Perkins, the star of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho”.

The film follows FBI agent Lee Harker (Monroe) as she investigates an unsolved case of a serial killer plaguing her small Pacific Northwest town. The film takes an unexpected, supernatural turn when she discovers a personal connection to the occult killer.

This is what critics say about “Longlegs”.

Critics claim that “Longlegs” will “hijack your subconscious.”

Critics call “Longlegs” a true horror film. Peter Debruge of Variety writes that the film can “hijack the subconscious”: “Less than twelve hours after I saw it, Nicolas Cage’s insane character reappeared in my nightmares.”

David Ehrlich of Indie Wire expressed a similar opinion in his review: “‘Longlegs’ is terrifying in the abstract while becoming increasingly absurd as you watch it. It creeps into that liminal space between childhood nightmares and adult sobriety.”

The Hollywood Reporter calls Longlegs Perkins’ “most complete and tireless film to date,” despite concerns that he may “bring too many elements into the mix here.”

Neon has used strategic marketing to convey the horror level of this film, releasing a teaser that states: “When Maika Monroe first saw Nicolas Cage as Longlegs, her heart rate reached 170 beats per minute.”

One user responded: “The marketing for this movie is so good it actually makes me worried.”

Longlegs stars Blair Underwood as Agent Carter and Alicia Witt as Ruth Harker, Lee Harker’s ultra-religious mother. The ensemble cast includes Michelle Choi Lee, Dakota Daulby, Lauren Acala, Kieran Shipka and Maila Hosie.
