Adam Hastings will return for Scotland to face the USA in an all-new starting lineup named by coach Gregor Townsend for their second Test of the summer.

None of the players who played in the 73-12 win over Canada will be in the starting lineup for Friday’s match against the USA in Washington DC (11:30 p.m. CEST).

Hastings last represented Scotland against Fiji in 2022 and partners George Horne at half-back in a backline dominated by Glasgow players.

There are four more Warriors players in the back line: Sione Tuipulotu resumes his midfield lineup with Huw Jones, and Kyle Steyn – who scored one of the 11 tries in Ottawa – is on the wings, while Kyle Rowe takes the full-back position.

Edinburgh winger Duhan van der Merwe, who is one try away from equalling the Scottish record for most tries scored, is the only non-Glasgow player behind the scrum.

Scarlets striker Alex Craig will make his first international appearance in three years, joining Scott Cummings in the second row.

Rory Darge, who is co-captain with Tuipulotu, will be joined in the back row by Matt Fagerson and Jamie Ritchie, who will be making his 50th international appearance.

Ritchie, who made his debut on the 2018 North American tour, was named vice-captain for the match against the USA.

Pierre Schoeman will play as loose-head prop and Ewan Ashman as hooker, while Murphy Walker – who has only made three appearances – will get a chance as tight-head.

The substitutes who played in Canada last weekend include Elliot Millar Mills, Max Williamson, Luke Crosbie, Rory Sutherland, Robbie Smith, Ross Thompson, Jamie Dobie and Matt Currie.

Scotland opened their summer tour with a win over Canada last weekend and, following their game in the USA, Townsend’s team will now face Chile (July 20) and Uruguay (July 27) live on BBC Scotland and iPlayer.

The last time Scotland met the USA was in 2018. Back then, a team with Stuart Hogg, Blair Kinghorn, Hastings, Zander and Matt Fagerson lost 30-29 in Houston.
