Land of women got moving thanks to Eva Longoria

Screen Rant: How did the idea for this project first come about? Who first had the idea and how did it go from there?

Ramón Campos: The idea came from a suggestion by Eva Longoria herself. She said she wanted to shoot something in Spain about wine, strong women and in Spanish. From then on, Gema, Bambu Producciones and I started looking for stories. We found the novel by Sandra Barneda, which was the perfect inspiration for it.

Eva is the heart of the series and of course also acts as an executive producer. Gema, can you tell us something about working with her and her contribution?

Gema R. Neira: She is a super smart, hardworking person. She has a huge background as an actress but also as a producer and director, so working with her is very easy. When she says something, everything is always logical and she always thinks about things for the better. It was an absolute pleasure working with her.

Speaking of collaboration: You two have worked together on many projects. How does this process work? What do you see in each other as partners and how do you reach the finish line together?

Ramón Campos: We have been working together for 20 years, so we know each other very well. We know what the other thinks, what we like and what we don’t, so we try to be as generous as possible.

Gema, for example, likes to take more risks than I do. I prefer to be conservative, so we push and pull, push and pull to find just the right middle ground and find out what is best for us, what is new for us and what is worth it.

Do you have any special memories of filming in Catalonia?

Ramón Campos: Wow. When we arrived in Girona, we had dinner with Eva and the whole cast. It was a nice afternoon and we said: “So, here we are again after a year.”

Of the sequences, the scene on the hill is my favorite. When the three women start screaming, cursing and insulting everyone who has treated them badly, that is my favorite scene.

Gema R. Neira: I agree that it’s my favorite scene, but I also love all the scenes where the three of them are together, like in bed. That’s what the show represents to me, and I can relate to those scenes and understand that experience. Being with your mother and your daughter; showing love to your loved ones. That’s a beautiful scene.
