The most beautiful wedding dresses for your big day 2024

You don’t have to plan a Hollywood wedding to wear a dress that exudes glamour.
“On their wedding day, people should be able to be as glamorous as they want, even if it’s not black tie,” says event planner Marcy Blum, owner of Marcy Blum Events.

Sequins, beads, feathers and a luxurious fabric like Mikado silk come to mind, but that’s not the limit of the genre. According to Julie Sabatino, bridal stylist and author of “Dressed, Styled, and Down the Aisle: Becoming a Stylish Bride” (Greenleaf Book Group Press), a glamorous wedding dress simply makes a statement and has a major wow factor. “Glamour can be achieved in many ways, such as a long train, a voluminous skirt or dramatic draping,” she said.

According to Maisie-Kate Keane, bridal stylist at Maisie-Kate Style, glamorous dresses can be provocative but still elegant overall. “There’s a fine line between glamorous and over-the-top sexy, though,” she said. “The silhouette of the dress is often cut to accentuate the figure, whether through a bodycon design or a voluminous, dramatic skirt.”

Research the wedding ceremony and reception venue to help you decide what to wear.

“A glamorous dress would be perfectly fine in a grand cathedral or a grand ballroom, but not in a garden at home or on the beach,” Sabatino said, noting, “If (glamour) comes from the simplicity of the dress – think Carolyn Bessette – then it could be appropriate in a more casual setting.”
In fact, a plain dress can be very glamorous.

“A minimalist-glam dress should have clean, smooth lines and subtle details, allowing the luxurious fabric and tailoring to take center stage,” said Keane. “Think of a dress with a streamlined silhouette, with a hint of shimmering fabric or a touch of delicate lace.”

Glamorous wedding dresses can show some skin, for example through a high slit on the leg or a plunging neckline.
“If you’re showing a lot of leg, keep the neckline more subtle,” advises Keane. “If you’re showing cleavage, consider a longer hem or longer sleeves.”

For the rest of the wedding party, choose glamorous suits and dresses for a cohesive look. “For winter weddings, there’s something incredibly chic about dressing bridesmaids in all black or rich jewel tones and choosing luxurious fabrics like silk, velvet and sequins,” Keane said.

In the warmer months, lighter fabrics such as silk chiffon or organza drape beautifully and feel airy and elegant.

When it comes to accessories, choose pieces that complement the dress rather than overwhelm it.

Designer Esé Azénabor believes that anything goes when it comes to accessories for your glamorous wedding dress, but “it’s important to remember that glamorous doesn’t mean ostentatious or over the top.”

Keane recommends statement earrings, “such as chandelier or drop earrings embellished with crystals, diamonds or pearls. Depending on the neckline of the dress, you can wear a statement necklace or a more subtle, dainty piece if the dress is already heavily embellished. A cathedral or chapel length veil with lace, pearl or crystal embellishments will add drama and elegance to the dress. For shoes, choose satin heels or shoes embellished with crystals or pearls. Metallic tones like silver or gold can also add a touch of sparkle.”

Sabatino cautioned against going too far. “Accessories should highlight the woman and match the dress, but not overdo the overall look,” she said. “Save that for the after-party.”
