Truck stolen while couple slept in attached trailer

DENVER (KDVR) — A couple sleeping in an RV in Boulder, Colorado, were awakened when they felt the vehicle roll over. They realized that while they were sleeping, someone had stolen the truck attached to the RV and taken the car, the RV and the couple along for the ride.

The June night began with a man, a woman and their dog sleeping in a friend’s RV parked outside her apartment, police said. In the middle of the night, someone broke into the pickup truck attached to the RV and drove away.

They remained calm and called for help.

“The first call was filled with tears and confusion,” Boulder police said on X.

At around 3 a.m., police spotted the car and attempted to stop the trunk with the couple inside. However, after officers turned on the sirens, the truck driver accelerated and turned into a dead-end street, according to police.

Officers arrested the driver, who had previously been arrested three times for auto theft in three jurisdictions.

According to Boulder police, the driver is now charged with second-degree auto theft, two counts of reckless endangerment, fleeing from a vehicle, carrying a concealed knife and failure to appear in court in a previous theft case.

Police said the man, woman and their puppy were safe but shaken.
