The Washington Capitals selected center Petr Sikora with the 178th pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday afternoon at The Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 18-year-old Sikora is 6’0″, 175lbs and has played in the Czech system of HC Oceláři Třinec.

In the 2023/25 season, Sikora played mainly with the U20 team of HC Oceláři Třinec, scoring 13 goals and making 27 assists in 30 games. He also played with the main team of HC Oceláři Třinec, scoring one goal and making two assists in 22 games. He also represented the Czech Republic at the U18 WJC Championship, where he played in 5 games and scored 1 goal and one assist.

He is considered a good puck handler and a good two-way forward. The Elite Prospects report calls him a forechecking forward with good puck control. He chases the puck with remarkable intensity, often lunging and sliding to get his stick on it. He shields the puck and wins every battle of wills. His desire to score and get the puck back is generally greater than the opponent’s ability to stop him.

OTHER RECORDINGS

An article about him in The Hockey News states: “Sikora’s game revolves around his physicality. Sikora is 6’1″ and weighs 175 pounds. He loves to participate in the forecheck and never misses an opportunity to complete his check. Despite facing bigger defenders, Sikora can win the boards battles as he often out-scores his opponent on loose pucks.”
