On Sunday, Mexico and Ecuador will meet at State Farm Stadium in a decisive Copa America Group B match to determine a place in the quarterfinals.

Ecuador enters the match with three points and second place in the group. The team beat Jamaica 3-1 but lost to Venezuela. They also have a slight advantage on goal difference.

Mexico, on the other hand, lost 1-0 to Venezuela and also won against Jamaica. Due to the worse goal difference, a win is essential for Mexico if it wants to stay in the tournament.

Coach Jaime Lozano knows it’s an all-or-nothing situation, but is confident his team can do it.

“We still have 90 minutes and nobody is leaving this ship. We will do it,” said Lozano after the defeat against Venezuela. “We will do it, I’m sure of it.”

Despite their recent difficulties, Mexico have a solid record against Ecuador in Copa America tournaments in the past, winning four of their five encounters, but their recent form against CONMEBOL teams has been challenging, as they have lost six of their last seven encounters.

Prediction Mexico vs. Ecuador

  • Result prediction: Mexico – Ecuador 1:2

Mexico’s problems in front of goal could prove costly against a disciplined Ecuadorian side. Although El Tri have created chances, they have not been able to convert them, which could continue to trouble them.

With the return of Enner Valencia and a coherent strategy under Felix Sanchez, Ecuador has the opportunity to exploit the weaknesses of the Mexican defense.
